Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is defined as the persistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficiently for a satisfactory sexual performance. This is a very common condition, particularly in older men.
It is estimated that half of all men between the ages of 40 and 70 will have it to some degree. Erectile dysfunction can be caused through a range of physical or psychological factors. For instance, a minor physical condition that slows your sexual response might cause anxiety about maintaining an erection. The resulting anxiety can lead to or worsen erectile dysfunction.

How is it treated?
This condition is primarily treated by finding the cause of the problem, whether it is physical or psychological.
Narrowing of the arteries which is known as (atherosclerosis) is one of the most common causes of ED. In these cases, your doctor may suggest you make certain lifestyle changes, such as losing weight to prevent you from developing cardiovascular disease. This may help to dismiss some symptoms you’ve been experiencing as well as improving your overall health.
If physical changes are unable to treat your ED, then your GP may resort to medication. Medication such as sildenafil (Viagra) can be used to manage your ED. However, other medication may be used to treat your erectile dysfunction if the problem is more severe.
Psychological treatments can involve cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and sex therapy.
Overall, treatments for ED have improved significantly in recent years. Many men have benefitted from these treatments.
